Do Cinematic Video Games Really Need Film Adaptations?

•April 5, 2014 • Leave a Comment

After spending almost all of my free time watching Netflix on my brand new Titanfall Xbox One.

I started to become a casual gamer, And that can’t (and shouldn’t) happen!!! So I started replaying games like Halo 4, Batman: Arkham Origins, Assassin’s Creed 4, and of course Titanfall.

I began to realize a very strange thing happening. As with most video game adaptations, the movie studios that make these, will do whatever they want with the franchise. Completely disrespecting the fans, all in the name of artist licensing bullshit.

So with all these amazing cinematic video games out now and/or coming out soon. Why are we all so adamant in making these awesome games into live action films. Now, don’t get me wrong I would LOVE to see such games like Halo, Assassin’s Creed, or Splinter Cell turned into movies.

However, with the interactivity of these games do we really need to see them with actors/actress’ who look nothing like the characters they are desperately (if at all) trying to act like. Or would you rather have an incredibly talented CGI studio work directly with the game studio to create a beautifully cinematic feature length film, that can make a far more impressive action flick, than any live action film could ever dream of.

Which version would you prefer to see in theaters? Tell me what you think in the comments below.

Fork That Orc: Soggie’s First Video Game Recommendation.

•September 20, 2013 • Leave a Comment

Hey everyone, today I am sitting here in my underwear replaying probably one of my favorite video games I played. This is the first “Soggie’s Video Game Recommendations” aptly named “Fork That Orc”.

Today, I am here to recommend:

Image

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

At first glance you will note the amazing (if slightly polished) trailer the developers Eidos Montreal released for the game, with amazing folklore references to the human’s uncanny want for knowledge in the form of Icarus. Which plainly states that if you reach for the unknowable, you want inevitably get hurt. This leads to an amazing narration be the lead voice actor Elias Toufexis. Who has the stern yet damaged voice of a god machine. Just watch it for yourself, and tell me that it doesn’t give you chills, and if it doesn’t then you obviously have a limited knowledge of the ability of human imagination… and you suck.

Visuals

While the trailer was a tad misleading in the graphics of the overall game itself, you have to realize that the game was in development for FOUR years before it was finally released. Since to most modern gamers, you might be a little discouraged to play this game due to your unreasonably keen eye for graphical errors. But there is more to this game that need to be explained.

The setting of the game is based around a Blade Runner/Victorian Era stylization. Having somber undertones of turn of the century shakespearean clothing, mixing with a gothic, technological atmosphere.

Gameplay

Because the premise of the game has you infiltrating buildings throughout it’s story. Eidos has reworked the combat systems, giving you the feel of the original Deus Ex, but making it also feel like a whole other game. Stealth is a large component to the game. While they also give you the choice to play the game in the traditional run and gun fashion, they leave it open for the player to ultimately decide how they want to experience the game. They have also added a new takedown ability which allows you to sneak up behind an enemy and either silently take them out, or violently kill them. They have also kept the ability to upgrade your character with Praxis points which you can earn by being more stealthy, violent, or by finding them throughout the many levels of the game (giving you more reasons to explore the games amazing surrounds).

But if I were to put it in the simplest of terms, it’s a FPSRPG (or First Person Shooter Role Playing Game to all you non-gamers reading this).

Story

The game takes place in the year 2027. The main character Adam Jensen, who began as flesh and bone. After an attack on Sarif Industries, the leading company in cybernetic prosthetics, is horribly beaten and shot. He is forced back to life by Sarif, driven by his need for the truth, as to the mystery of why the company was attacked, and why his girlfriend was murdered. But the truth may not be what he was expecting. It is a tale of technology over humanity, and our greed for the wealth of knowledge we are never meant to have. The human element.

Finally a game with such a rich, deep, and meaningful story.

Well folks, that has been my Recommendation for this weeks newest segment “Fork That Orc.” I hoped you enjoyed it as much as I loved talking about an awesome game. If you’d like to hear more of my recommendations please leave a comment below, and I will gladly keep recommending more games for you.

Now if you excuse me I’m gonna get drunk and play some more Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

This has been Soggie,

Signing out Bitches!!!!

Episode 1 Part II “Takes More Than That…”

•July 17, 2013 • Leave a Comment

FINALLY – the second part of the first episode is here! Why is there more than one part? Because we can’t shut the fuck up!

Featuring myself (Jackie) the girl with the voice of the twelve year old boy; Soggie, the whitest Mexican you know; and Boo… just, Boo.

In this episode, Jackie and Soggie try to wrap up their previous discussion about dead comic book characters. Is it better to bring a character you love back to life, or keep them dead to not cheapen the impact?

Then it’s video game time! Soggie and Boo chime in their opinions about the new consoles and – could it be the greatest video game EVER?! – The Last of Us!

Like usual, Boo is the quietest and I’m the loudest. One day we’ll get a real setup. I’ll get music credits up here soon.

Part III: “And Then…” will arrive next week! Things get deep, emotional, and all around enlightening as we finally wrap up the first episode. Maybe we can figure out how to shut the fuck up and these won’ be so damn long!

Soggie will be here soon to add his own ramblings to this post. Fuck yeah!

P.S. Here’s the cover we discussed in the beginning. It’s from JLA Classified No. 4, I Can’t Believe It’s Not the Justice League!

Episode 1 Part I “Serious Business!”

•July 4, 2013 • Leave a Comment

Moving right along, the first part of the first episode is here! Why is there more than one part? Because we can’t shut the fuck up!

Featuring myself (Jackie) the girl with the voice of the twelve year old boy; Soggie, the whitest Mexican you know; and Boo… just, Boo.

In this episode, we get serious really fast when deathly discussion arrive. Natural disasters and those sneaky stalkers the NSA take center stage as Soggie and I debate serious shit. A few words about Man of Steel (which we all loved!) and then suddenly we hit super nerdy territory: who is the least attractive superhero of all time? Why can’t superheros just stay dead already?

Like usual, Boo is the quietest and I’m the loudest. One day we’ll get a real setup. I’ll get music credits up here soon.

Part II: ‘Takes More Than That to Kill a Bug’ will arrive next week! Boo and Soggie discuss the latest game news including The Last of Us (greatest game ever?) and upcoming games while I search my comic collection for an old Nintendo advertisement!

Soggie will be here soon to add his own ramblings to this post. Fuck yeah!

Join us as we discuss our history/friendship, and some other things. I apologize in advance for how loud I am. I’m pretty damn loud, but I bumped my mic up without paying attention.

Soggie will come in and add his own shit to this post. Fuck yeah!

That’s correct, Jackie! I am loving my voice whenever you can hear it! I am also loving how Boo is getting more involved in the conversations.

Enjoy the Random Ramblings of the Box Crew!

Netflix: The Rise and Fall of Modern Media.

Ok, just to be clear, before I start talking about Netflix. I just want to say that I don’t hate Netflix, without it I would probably be more active and productive with my projects. Not having to buy all these movies or Tv shows saves me so much money.

When Netflix first arrived sometime around 1999 it didn’t really cause that much traction amongst the masses. Mainly due to the unavailability of digital streaming that didn’t become available until around 2008. It’s main focus was to give people the ability to “Rent” DVDs through the mail. This function caused a lot of issues, giving wake to shipping issues, late fees, as well as limited quantities of product. Here is where we come full circle, and back around to the fact that digital streaming arrived back in 2008. This led to more and more Tv shows and movies to be available for everyone to watch and enjoy. However…

Now, the bashing begins.

Because of its amazing success. It has dealt a huge blow to everyone’s social lives. Causing a large number of people to stay at home and watch Netflix instead of going out and hanging with friends, or living their life (I would know I’m one of them).

Thankfully I haven’t gotten to this point yet.

The main problem I noticed about Netflix is their lack of quality programming. Yes, I understand that they have to go through tons of legal hoops just to get the programming that they do have.

But the thing that they do that still eludes me to this day, that once they have the rights to the Shows or the Movies, they seem to rarely ever add new episodes and current movies.

I can’t remember the last time they updated their Tv Show selections. As for the Movie selections are generally B movies that aren’t even good enough to be on tv. As well as a falling out with Warner Bros. also they released a statement saying that within the next few months they will be adding more content to the list of programs they provide, but they also removed almost 2,000 titles from the Netflix library at midnight on May 1. leaving less selection than they actually started with.

Anyways that my rant on the Media Monster known as Netflix. What do you think of what Netflix?

Looking To The Future!

•October 8, 2012 • Leave a Comment

I have recently come to realize that I have dropped the ball when it comes to bringing you all up to date info on anything I’m passionate about and for that I apologize.

This however is a personal lesson for me. It taught me to never alienate or abandon my audience, though I’ve started to notice a shift in the caring for the baby known as “Ramble Box Studios” and I intend on keeping this website as alive as possible.

Things to come in the near future!

  • More topics.
  • Video Podcasts.
  • A consistent Youtube channel.
  • Fan reaction Email reads, callouts.
  • Guest appearances.
  • Less drinking… Or more…

I’m sorry for not being around for quite some time, I had a lot of personal issues to take care of. Sadly though a lot more personal issues will follow. But I promise to do more for this up and coming company in the future!

We’ve got a long road ahead of us, and I hope you’ll all be there to support us.

Soggie!
